Job Description: Communications Specialist
General
Cawaco RC&D provides administrative and project support to other nonprofit organizations with a focus on development or conservation of the area’s natural and human resources. The Communications Specialist will work under the direction of the Executive Director (ED) and provide support for several programs.
Since RC&D staffing is limited, the candidate must be willing to perform any administrative or program requirement necessary for program implementation or Council support. Other duties assigned will be discussed with the candidate and are dependent on the applicant’s interest and skill set.
Job Description
- Coordinate press and events for all Cawaco projects (AARCDC, SHU, CGT, Gardens, Holle, etc.).
- Coordinate communications for social media, print, TV, and radio.
- Create videos to promote programs and communicate local efforts.
- Maintain project websites (Cawaco, Holle, SHU and CGT) .
- Work with the legislative liaison to inform legislators of RC&D projects and impacts.
- Work with Executive Director and Program Managers to create special recognition events.
- Coordinate or ensure that branding is consistent.
- Develop communication relationships with TV, radio, newspapers, and online outlets.
- Work with Executive Director to develop relationships with area businesses to champion RC&D programs.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field is preferred, but not required.
- Able to work within a Microsoft Teams environment.
- Sharp time management skills.
- Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data.
- “Can Do” attitude and persistence to overcome obstacles.
- Able to work on multiple, concurrent projects.
- Able to work well independently and within a team-focused environment.
- Be willing to learn new skills to assist with program delivery.
Work Environment
Cawaco RC&D has a rare job opening for a servant-minded person to join our team. Since Cawaco is a small operation, you will have many opportunities to assist and/or develop new projects that fulfil the mission of the Council. No two days will be alike. You will meet the most wonderful people in the area and throughout Alabama that are delivering meaningful and interesting programs.
While much of the work is done remotely or at the office, there are times that the job requires traveling to meetings, some overnight. Personal vehicles are used to attend meetings and project site visits. Mileage is reimbursed at the current federal rate.
Work hours are somewhat flexible, but the job will require that the employee be primarily available during work hours between 8am and 5pm. Cawaco has a generous holiday and vacation policy. Benefits available include health, dental, and vision insurance (or stipend) and retirement.
