Growing and distributing food in urban areas often looks a little different than it does in rural areas—it usually takes the form of community gardens, rooftop and vertical farms, or even hydroponic, aeroponic and aquaponic systems. These urban farmers need resources tailored to living and growing in a city.
Urban Agriculture in Alabama
Cawaco RC&D partners with the Alabama Natural Resources Conservation Service, National Association of RC&D Councils, and Alabama Soil & Water Conservation Committee on Urban Agriculture in Alabama. This program offers technical assistance, education and resources to urban growers.

Community Events
Cawaco RC&D held three events this spring to support the community. Participants got some Q&A time with farmers, learned about gardening on a budget, and even got their hands dirty and planted some seeds to take home.

Cawaco RC&D provided free vegetable and wildflower seeds so participants could continue growing their garden at home.
