This grant partially funded the spring and summer Outreach & Stewardship internships at Freshwater Land Trust (FLT).
Both interns primarily worked with Rebekah Correia, FLT’s Outreach & Communications Director, and Sam McCoy, FLT’s Land Stewardship Director. They visited FLT’s conservation properties with Stewardship staff to conduct annual monitoring visits on nine properties. During these visits, they learned to identify the plants/animals observed and assess the health of the habitat. Following each visit they completed the report on the property’s health and status. Additionally, the interns assisted with removing invasive Bradford pear from a property, participated in a litter clean up, attended planning meetings for a restoration project, and assisted with an initial site visit for an upcoming conservation easement.
In addition to the Stewardship report, the interns wrote “highlights” about each property they visited to be included in blog posts and monthly newsletters. The interns assisted with other Outreach & Communications tasks, too, including creating handouts for events, and taking photos for use in social media posts.
