Raising Awareness for Watercress Darters

The Birmingham metro area is home to three endangered darters, including the watercress darter (Etheostoma nuchale). Cawaco RC&D worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to enhance and preserve habitat for these species. We hosted community workdays to remove invasive plant species, installed public educational signs, and helped distribute a book about the history of the watercress darter to Jefferson County Schools.
